Snow fall after snow fall. We are slowing digging ourselves out. I feel like all the New England towns are really just creating snow tunnels more than plowing. There has been lots and lots days home from school, which has made our hot chocolate supply run low. And to think just this last holiday season, I was wondering if we would have any snow this year.
Right now is the busiest time of year for us. Most people it's before the holidays but with us it's after. There are three birthdays in a row, tax season, school projects, and endless work tasks. I've been trying to plan or take pictures or do anything on my days off - but it's really hard not to just be lazy. There really has not been much going on around here besides watching all the episodes of Gilmore Girls.
There is still pottery, and I've finished my cross stitch project. We are planning on finishing Aries room soon, Then there are spring plans of a garage makeover and a moon garden. Right now, with Blizzards and the sound of plows outside, you are going to find me in pajama pants, under a heating blanket, on the couch.
So I'm crossing my fingers the birds start chirping outside again, that the whistling of the radiators settle, and I can feel my toes again.
Spring - I miss you.

Our fall has been filled with goodness. On Halloween night it drizzled rain and was chilly but that didn't stop our light up stick figure and super girl. Odyn's costume was such a big hit - he even would stop and pose for people including a police man who drove by and a pizza delivery person. Our town is wonderful and filled with such kind hearted people. The police were even handing out candy to the little ones. We walked all over the neighborhood, until little hands were too cold and too wet to go any longer. Damien was determined to just stay home this year, so he handed out candy with my mom.
There has been such a chill in the air lately. We lit our fireplace last night for the first time this year. I'm a true believer that fall doesn't end until after Thanksgiving, even though there are Christmas and winter decorations everwhere. My pumpkins are still out and I painted leaves to make a Thanksgiving garland.
My making ideas have been over flowing lately. I've started a cross stitch, that I plan on framing and hanging in the dining room. There has been more and more art pieces being hung up around the house. Right now, there is a pottery wheel hanging out in my dining room corner - it's too cold to work out in the garage. My pottery collection is growing and growing and with it my skill. The other night in class I made my biggest bowl to date. While we save to get the kiln up and running, I'm starting to clean out unwanted fabric to put in the shop, plan out the studio space in the garage, and work on a new online space. Such exciting things to come in the months ahead.

It's hard to believe that my last post was the beginning of June, but then again it's not. I've started my new job, giving me more time at home.
There has been a lot I've wanted to do without a day off to do it and now it's almost like days off overload. I've been playing catch up - going to farmer's market, taking trips up to the rose garden, beach days, book barn days, making mint oil.... oh the list could go on and on. It's summer and that's exactly what your suppose to do.
I'm proud to say I read two whole books in 1 week! There are plants outside right now waiting to go in the garden. I have plans to go to open studio day for pottery tomorrow, along with the beach. While there is a part of me that wants to settle down and start crossing things off my list - this part right now is having way too much fun for that. So my posts are still going to be sporadic, art will come when I want to do it, and the new shop plans will have to wait until there is a routine.

I have the weirdest days off, honestly. Sundays and Wednesdays. Sometimes it feels like I never leave my day job. But it all works schedule wise.
This year I promised myself to carve out a sliver of time that was just for me, get back to blogging, art, and to try new things. Pottery was at the top of my list. So every Wednesday night I go to pottery class. It was intimidating at first. My first real art class as an adult.
Throwing the clay, pulling up the walls, getting dirty. It's a much harder than the potters of the art world lead you to believe. My first couple of pieces are the size of toothpick holders and possibly a wonky personal sized gravy boat.
But this one class was a turning point. Hovering over the wheel, trying to get my lump of clay to go more vertical, I could hear myself in my head saying "just make a bowl already". Always being busy, in a rush, and more than likely the mom of three littles - was making me actually try to just hurry up the process, and well pressure the clay into something. The whole point of the class was to relax, slow down a bit.
What the potters have that I didn't was patience.
I'm slowly getting better. My second batch of pieces produced a nice bowl, a couple of planters, and a mug. The whole process really makes you appreciate all the pottery pieces you've ever owned and took for granted how they were made.
